Working posture and sports equipment

Asanas are established Yoga poses or positions, in which the body’s anatomical functional abilities are taken into account very precisely.
After many years of working as a Yoga practitioner and studying the working posture of a competitive rower, whose feet serve as the main push force, fixed on the pedal grip, in a sitting position, thus eliminating the mechanism of divergent feet, I find a similar situation with cyclists.
In both cases, the spine is deprived of anatomical mechanisms that build the back’s functional curves, through which the burden is optimally distributed. In both cases, the role of synergy among the psoas muscle group is neglected. In both cases, this muscle is constantly shortened anatomically and it's the chief antagonist of the gluteus muscle, which is the main push force on a bicycle.

The Psoas muscle serves as a true circuit-protection fuse, because, depending on the circumstances, it responds instinctively via the human sensory system – in a self-controlled "ready position" – and then the person consciously decides whether to push forward or withdraw. It’s also the main co-operator of balance, balancing the mass of both the bike and the rider.
I have no precise insight into how much importance Yoga places on ulnar wrist anatomy as a contribution to proper grip placement on handlebars and thus to enhanced cycling performance. But I see possibilities here for improvements, particularly in terms of an advanced cycling chronometer plus a yoga-trained cyclist! With such exclusive technological support of bicycle mechanisms, the nature of cycling races is continuously advancing.  Nonetheless, the human organism’s adaptive potential has its own rules, rhythm and pace.

This is an important reminder for all cycling enthusiasts and professional riders, particularly those competing in the highly demanding 4th stage of the Tour of the Basque Country 2024!

Namaste.
